De Poort Guest House is a Karoo retreat in the heart of the Cango Valley. The guest lodge is located 15 km from Oudtshoorn en route to the world famous Cango Caves. The thatched roof lodge owned and managed by Leon and Rita Groenewald offers the discerning traveller comfortable en suite accommodation.
By prior arangement home cooked meals is served South African style and by lamp light. Come and experience our Klein Karoo hospitality, fresh air and sparkling mountain water.
The clear night skies provide wonderful star gazing and short hiking trails are on the premises.
We have eight en
suite rooms, a bar, a dining hall, off-road parking near the
rooms, a salt-water swimming pool, breath taking nature scenery
and a hiking trail. We are perfectly situated for bird watching
and enjoying the unusual plants and succulents.
Each of De Poort’s rooms were named after the wild animals
that can be found in the area. Each room is decorated
individually to enhance the atmosphere of a traditional guest
home.
Oudtshoorn is the gem of the Klein Karoo - an ancient rollling plain between the Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains. The town is enclosed on either side by mountains which means that evey road into the area is a pass. This affords the traveller with breathtaking scenes of unspiolt nature.
Oudtshoorn is also a tourist hotspot; en route to De Poort Guest House on the R328 you will have the opportunity to visit Cango Wildlife Ranch, Cango Ostrich farm, Rust & Vrede waterfall, Wilgewandel and ofcourse the world famous Cango Caves.
You can also take
the Swartberg mountain pass to Prins Albert and Gamkaskloof (De
Hel).
In Oudtshoorn itself you can visit a number of curio shops,
historic ostrich palaces, the C.P. Nel museum, C.J. Langenhoven's
house and the suspension bridge spanning the Grobelaars rivier.
There are also a number of wine farms in the area.
